High-frequency electronic ballast

Generally, the high-frequency electronic ballast is an AC to AC power converter. It converts line-frequency power from the utility to a high-frequency AC power for discharging lamp. Typical high-frequency electronic ballasts consist of rectifier and chopper. The rectifier contains four diodes and one bulk capacitor. This simple scheme is still widely used because of its lower cost. However, it has very poor line side pf and large THD. The low PF increases the reactive power and the large THD pollute the utility line. In order to solve this problem, a boost rectifier is used as Active PFC rectifier, or Passive PFC circuitry (LC filter) can also solve this problem.
